Terry's Learning

I write about people and process stuff, often linked to the impact of technology on us all, especially in education and training. I am particularly interested in change, leadership, influence and getting things done.

Begining blogging

When I first heard of blogging, I thought ‘who would be so egotistical as to think that others would want to read their ideas?’. Certainly not me. Of course, this is not even a rational line of thought because I continually find others’ blogs helpful, so many bloggers are right – others, more specifically, I, do want to read their ideas. But I never claim to be rational.

A significant change for me came in 2006, when Cathy Gunn, a fellow fllinnzer, talked to a group of us about her new-found perspective which was that she would blog for herself and the personal value it brought, and if anyone else wanted to read it, that was up to them. That rang true for me, so I decided I would start blogging as a way of processing for myself the different things I read and learn. But then it never seemed the right time to begin …

Now, only three years later (!), here it is, my first blog. It is an insight into who I am that beginning my own business and seeing this as a credibility issue, as well as paying someone else to sort out the technology (yes I know it is very simple but I hate that sort of thing) is what it has taken for me to start.

So, welcome! In the main, I will muse on the people and organisational aspects of technology in education and training because that is what interests me, but will no doubt stray when other things grab me.

And yet, already, I can see a certain irony. I want to blog for myself, but in order to do that, I need to imagine I am talking to somebody or bodies. In fact, I am imagining some colleagues, safe ones, who I imagine might be interested in this (I may tell you it is you one day). Still, I often do that when I think alone – half imagine I am talking to someone.

Please bear with me as I learn to think out loud publicly and I may or may not see you here again.
